One has to wonder exactly who they were and if there was any reason behind their deaths beyond it just being another unfortunate casualty in Republic City. Were they just a couple who ended up as unfortunate casualties marking the corruption and crime in Republic City? Or were they people of significance intentionally sought out to be killed? Such evil spirit will bring out his darker side and fight Mako, exploiting his hidden jelousy for his brother and it will make him a formidable foe.
Calling it now. Bolin will rediscover magma bending, making him one of the strongest earthbenders of his era. The fire bender who would then killed Mako and Bolin's parents wasn't just any mugger. They were either racist, and were against the idea of some earth-bending family "tainting" a fire-bender. Or the mugger may have been Mako's bilogical parent who had Mako taken away due to being considered a bad parent the parent may have been abusive or an alcoholic and would mistreat Mako when drunk , and they killed Mako's adoptive parents in a fit of rage.
If Bolin was the adopted child, Mako's parents probably worked for the Triple Threat Triad, and one of their jobs had them killing a prominent earth-bending family that stood in the Triad's way. Bolin was only a baby at the time, and as they had a son of their own, they couldn't bare to kill an innocent baby who wouldn't remember the event, so they took Bolin and raised him as their own child.
However, years later someone higher up in the Triple Threat Triad found out that Mako and Bolin's parents didn't completely put an end to Bolin's bilogical family, and as they worried that Bolin may found out about his real parents that he could want revenge, they couldn't just ignore this.
So they sent a fire bender to kill the family. Mako and Bolin just managed to escape while their parents held off the fire bender long enough for them before they were killed. Why the Triple Threat Triad didn't try to kill them though when Mako and Bolin were working for them?
It would have been a very long time after when the two were old enough to seek the Triad out for work, so no one in the Triad ever recognised them as the children who got away that one night years ago. The Triade may have also never had anyone who knew what Mako and Bolin looked like in the first place either when they were children, so it would have been difficult to see any connection. The fact that one of them was adopted never came up in the series isn't because they don't know, Mako and Bolin are aware of this just that they don't care.
They're still brothers and they don't believe it matters that they're not related by blood. It'll probably come up if they'll ever be asked specifically about this. H20 is better somewhat but thus show still has it's charm. I remember not bothering to watch Season 3 of H20 so I got hooked on this. No pun intended. There is some fairly innocent romance with some cheek kisses and a few quick pecks here and there. Not a bad introduction for younger audiences into the idea of romance, at least in comparison with many shows out there. I have seen some comments about swimsuits being too revealing or the male characters being shirtless at times. However, it is never unnecessarily added or sexualised in anyway. The characters all have healthy bodies and none of them are insecure about it in anyway. None of the girls are wearing makeup that is noticeable.
None of the characters are particularly inspiring or have any depth. The acting is fairly harmless and usually pretty mediocre but the kids do not seem to have an issue with this or even notice. The show is overall a little silly but my kids seem to find it entertaining and it is fairly harmless so who am I to complain, they could be watching much worse.

Scenes with Emma and Elliot or Emma and her parents and trying not to tell them. Special effects with the tentacle and the comet were fantastic. Mako mermaids is entertaining and good too. Lyla left after the first season to be in the movie Vampire Academy but the other new actresses that stand in for her and nixie who also left after season 1 are really good too. And the OG characters can say whether they finally showed their families. I definitely recommend these for mermaid loving kids though!

The body images are unrealistic and not representative of the normal range of body types. I was uncomfortable with my 7-yr-old daughter having access to this on netflix. Nothing of value here. In H2O there was a way to get to the moon pool from land but in mako mermaid there is not.

He can maintain his fire streams for a period of time for feats such as propelling himself through the air. He can also perform more advanced techniques such as the breath of fire. Mako uses lightning to distract Amon so he and Korra can save the airbenders. Mako is skilled enough to generate lightning and redirect it, having learned the skills from his former boss, Lightning Bolt Zolt.
He has used lightning for a job at a power plant in Republic City [1] and can effectively use it in combat. He can also fire it with considerable aim, being able to hit speeding targets and controlling the charge of it to merely stun targets. Amon admitted to Mako that he was impressed with his firebending skill, and that it was almost a shame that he would have to remove the bending of "someone so talented".
Mako showcases his trademark "cool under fire" style of bending. Mako has noticeable close-range and bare-handed combat skills, able to expertly perform a shoulder-throw. He has considerable raw strength, as he could effortlessly launch an Equalist agent a great distance, casually carry Bolin over his shoulder or Korra in his arms, and hoist an Equalist into the air with one hand.
While under the control of Amon's bloodbending, Mako was able to move his body slightly better than others caught under this technique and managed to aim a bolt of lightning at Amon, something that took the masked man by surprise. Mako is also shown to be quite level-headed in dire situations and has quick thinking, which was exhibited when he came up with a plan to save his brother from the Equalists during Amon's revelation.
Mako is also good at reading maps, as he figured out where the Equalist rally was located by looking at the maps he and Korra obtained from the Equalist protester. Mako demonstrated this ability again when he discovered where the Equalist airfield was hidden. He also appears to be an adequate cook, preparing meals for himself and Bolin.
As a police officer, Mako uses a motorcycle as his vehicle of choice, displaying great skill with maneuvering it over slick terrain and even incorporating his firebending as a booster to extend the distance of his jumps and to stabilize after a near crash. Mako is also a skilled detective, as demonstrated when he figured out that Varrick was trying to kidnap President Raiko [32] and when he discovered that Aiwei was working with the Red Lotus.
