Walk, run or ride your bike around Lake Quannapowitt on this approximately 3. The mostly flat, paved trail is perfect for all skill levels and is kid-friendly and wheelchair accessible. Dogs are also permitted on the path, provided they are leashed. The trail is open year-round, and is lined with beautiful wildflowers in the spring and summer. It is also the site of many organized races, from 5Ks to marathons.
Lake Quannapowitt is a small lake with easy access for sailing, kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding. There is a small boat launch and a sandy area for launching kayaks and canoes, perfect for a quick jaunt after a long day at the office!
Rent a kayak, paddleboard or pedal boat from the Wakefield Boathouse , or learn to sail with the Quannapowitt Yacht Club. I love this trail and visit this at least once in two weeks. Nice walk along the lake, plenty of green space to throw frisbee with friends. I went to Wakefield office for a party and decided to do the trail as part of walk for cause organized by my workplace. The fall colors still hanging around. The lake looks beautiful in the cloudy weather. Finished it under an hour.
Not a trail but for sure a beautiful walk to start your day or in the evening before going home to relax. Can get buggy in the summer. Easy enough for kids to join in.
Dog friendly. This is a very easy 3. The hike is almost exclusively all sidewalk with a few short stretches that are dirt or grass trails. I would recommend this for all ages.. Nice family friendly walk with many trash cans for dog poop and whatnot. Pretty views of the lake and people enjoying the lake.
This time I went earlier than usual 6pm ; the sun was still out and effective my stamina. I chose not to run today. Also soles on my shoes kill. I tried to use shokls cushion but they almost seemed ever worse! K need new sneaks like now! Flat for whole trail. Easy walking. The lake is nice.
Most of the trail is on a Major street so there is constant traffic along side where you are walking. None of them appear to be van-accessible with striped access aisles. The trail surface is paved asphalt or concrete, and typically at least 4 feet wide. Division of Fisheries and Wildlife "This lake was last surveyed in , at which time eight warm water species were recorded: largemouth bass, chain pickerel, white perch, yellow perch, bluegill, pumpkinseed, brown bullhead, and golden shiner. The chain pickerel and white perch dominated the sample. Tiger muskie fingerlings were stocked here on several occasions from to A Christianized Indian, he was involved in King Philip's War in the s, serving colonists as a guide and spy.
His wife's name was Mary, and they eventually moved to Natick, Mass. He was also one of the signers of the deed releasing to the colonists the land now occupied by the town of Wakefield. It is not known what the name, which has several variant spellings, originally meant in the Algonquin language. Some published maps of Lake Quannapowitt show a small island in the center of the north end of the lake called " Monk Island ".
The island does not exist, and there is no evidence that such an island ever existed in the past.
